It was a lovely hot day with alcohol, food, music, water fights and people. It was full of smiles and screaming children. I felt like I was with family and in a way, I was.
It was refreshing sleeping in an room with air-conditioning and without the eardrum-tearing screaming of longboat engines. But in a way I also missed the communal feeling of people sleeping around me.
Monday and off to the lake clinic this time, not river. 6.15am journey begins, stethoscope on someone’s chest by 1pm. A five-hour drive and then a two-hour boat ride to our destination – an abandoned primary school.
